Our trip to Macknade Fine Foods

We went to Macknade Fine Foods near Faversham recently. Although a little far from Deal it was a convenient lunchtime stop on a journey down from the M25, especially with Easter coming up, it can be a great stop on the way back from seeing family.

Browsing through the food hall is a foodie’s heaven. There is a butcher and deli counter, fruit and veg, specialist baking products, preserves and pickles and a flavoured tea selection, to name a few. Theres also artisanal products like cast iron cookware and olive wood bowls.

With much emphasis on local suppliers it’s nice to see familiar brands like Simply Ice Cream and Nip From The Hip, as well as discovering new products like The Whitstable Pickle Co. We came away with a few things, the highlight of which was some rose and lemon flavoured tea bags.

The cafe offers a nice selection of all day breakfast items, lunches, and homemade cakes. We had the New York Deli sandwich and the hand raised apricot and gammon pork pie. Their cheese and meat boards are particularly good, so we shared the platter of Italian meats. The extras such as sourdough bread and pear mortstada complimented the selection nicely. Choosing from the home made cakes was difficult, but we settled on a slice of espresso cake, which was subtle and moist.

For those looking somewhere to source local ingredients, or pick up some more specialist items be sure to make the trip to Macknade’s. With ambitious plans for extension, we’ll be making the trip up to East Kent’s leading food hall soon. We cant wait to see what they have in store.
